mythtv dev listing

Postby kainalu » Wed May 30, 2007 18:28

i have a hauppauge pvr-500mcs and SL 3.3 and am using mythtv but i cant seem to locate the capture cards. it is supposed to show up as two pvr-150's. the example shows /dev/video0 and /dev/video1, but they don't exist. i have tried "ls /dev/ >> file" with and without the card installed but the results are the same. i have followed myth's instructions to the letter. is there a kernel module that is not plugged in that i don't know about?

Hi,
Have you taken a look at any instructions at LinuxTV.org? They are the group responsible for everyhing concerning DVB and TV cards. Check the wiki to see if your card is effectively supported at this time and since which kernel version. If you want to use the lastest kernel modules from LinuxTV repository then you'll have to recompile your kernel after disabling the built-in support for DVB and so.

Also take a look at what 'dmesg' command displays about your card. Maybe the driver is there but it needs to load some firmware you don't have into the card, so maybe you'll have to look for it.

BTW, have you look this?

Well, the dmesg is pretty clear: your system is unable to load the proper firmware file into the card. Either you don't have the required file or else you have a wrong version of it.

The error messages say something about the file length not matching the expected one, so maybe you really do have a firmware file (named "v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw") but it's not the version matching the driver version's).

There's a package in Gentoo portage containing a set of firmware files for DVB cards. Maybe you should
try to emerge it, as maybe this updates the file:

Code: Select all
emerge linuxtv-dvb-firmware
