Johny Who -
I installed Skychart but went at it a different way. I didn't try to compile, too many dependencies and libraries that I couldn't round up. I downloaded the .DEB package, extracted to a temp directory. I copied the files (watch ownership and permissions) to the appropriate directory based on what directory they were in, in the temp directory. You will be copying files to /usr... and /home/username/... there aren't that many files that go on the 'system' side of your installation.
I did this back with Skychart version 3.1-1349 on a laptop with Sabayon 5 or 6 system. I have been keeping the OS up-to-date almost every week and Skychart still works great. If you have the skill to attempt compiling, you should be able to work out the details for installing the pre-compiled version.
Good luck. It's a great program!
