Thunderbird & Openpgp [Solved]

Postby cl00t » Wed Jun 06, 2012 18:46

Hello,

Thunderbird 12.0.1 has openpgp enabled by default & it isn't something which I can disable. In add-ons I disable the enigmail add on & it says to re-start to disable. I click to re-start but it still says to re-start after thunderbird has re-started :?: The add-on remains enabled & the openpgp menu is still available from the main window.
There is no way to disable it in options.

The same is true of the additional languages in Thunderbird, I click to disable them, they should be disabled on re-starting. they remain enabled on re-start & it says again to re-start ... an infinate loop.

I notice that enigmail is not available in entropy as a seperate package (it is in portage).
How can I disable enigmail as I get the openpgp pop up every time I send an email & it's a bit annoying

Can anyone else confirm this problem? If Thunderbird has been compiled with enigmail built in I will file a bug report asking if it can be compiled without it & enigmail provided as a seperate package for those who want it.

I had exactly the same problem. However, I've just retried this, and it appears to have been fixed. First of all try re-enabling Enigmail, since it will be in a disabled-but-not-disabled state that you cannot escape from directly. After a restart of Thunderbird, disable Enigmail, restart again, and hey presto, it is genuinely disabled, with the OpenPGP menu option no longer present.

Thanks due to whoever fixed this.

Thanks Edmund, it has been disabled now. You've no idea how many times I have disabled it & restarted for it not to have worked.
