xbmc problem

Postby chasha420 » Fri Mar 09, 2012 16:36

Hi guys, I'm running gnome3 (sabayon-8 ) with this version of xmbc:
Code: Select all
 @@ Package: media-tv/xbmc-10.1 branch: 5, [sabayonlinux.org]

The problem is for some reason every video played through xbmc seems to be in green and reddish colours and not in natural colors. I've also tested this by playing a local file through vlc and then on xmbc.

Also for some reason xbmc seems to be quite unstable, crashing a lot sometimes & gets stuck for a few minutes or something....leaving me with no other option to go to virtual console TTY1, etc. and then kill it.

Anyway, I want to know if there is a way to fix this? Perhaps resorting to an older version of xbmc might fix these issues? If so how do I do that actually since I'm not really a pro with Portage.

Thanks for your time!

Hi chasha420,

I had a similar problem with XBMC 2 years ago with my ATI graphic card.

What is your graphic card (ATI will not be a surprise) with the latest drivers?

If I remember, I had to change something in XBMC with the video output or rendering.
Will try to check or you can directly ask XBMC community

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try tweaking the video settings and see if anything helps.

Also I don't have a dedicated graphics card, I'm running xbmc on my old laptop which came with an integrated intel graphics card.

Code: Select all
# lspci | grep Graphics
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (primary) (rev 0c)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (secondary) (rev 0c)

Code: Select all
# eselect opengl list
Available OpenGL implementations:
  [1]   ati
  [2]   xorg-x11 *

Anyway let me know if I should provide more info.

Thanks!

Go to XBMC's Playback Videos Settings menu and try changing the playback settings:

Change the rendering method etc. If VDPAU and/or VAAPI are enabled, disable them. Play around with those and you'll probably find it gets rid of your problem. I had a similar problem on my nettop (with an NVIDIA GPU) a couple of years ago, and turning off VDPAU fixed the problem (despite the fact that VDPAU is for NVIDIA and my GPU supposedly supports it).

Hi Fitz,

I'm not much concerned with XBMC at this point but just for the sake of it I did try turning off VDPAU but the problem still persists...I guess something else is wrong. Anyway thanks for the help, appreciate it :)
