Jack/qjackctl [Solved]

Postby symon1980 » Wed Jun 04, 2008 7:23

hi guys.
i've been using Ardour for quite some time in other distro's.... obviously, it needs JackD, which usually comes with Ardour when downloading
in the repo's on debian based distro's, and you can use qjackctl as a gui to control/setup JackD...
Sabayon comes with Ardour, but no jackd from what i can see.... and its not in the repo, (unless im blind :) )
i have qjackctl, but im getting the following error when launching it:

Could not open ALSA sequencer as a client.
ALSA MIDI patchbay will be not available.
and:
Could not connect to JACK server as client.
- Overall operation failed.
- Unable to connect to server.

so im guessing its because the server (jackd) is not installed....
why the heck isn't it in the repo when we get ardour preinstalled?
Any suggestions? maybe i will have to search for the source on the website and compile it :s
Anybody else in Sabayon got jack/Ardour working?
thanx

actually... i found that jackd is installed... (apparently) but i couldn't find it in the repo and/or marked as installed....
here is the full report of my errors with qjackctl:

13:36:20.854 Patchbay deactivated.
13:36:20.967 Statistics reset.

13:36:25.082 Startup script terminated with exit status=256.
13:36:25.083 JACK is starting...
13:36:25.083 /usr/bin/jackd -R -doss -r48000 -p1024 -n2 -w16 -C/dev/dsp1
jackd: unknown driver 'oss'
13:36:25.090 JACK was started with PID=24174.
13:36:25.091 JACK was stopped with exit status=1.
13:36:25.092 Post-shutdown script...
13:36:25.092 killall jackd
jackd: no process killed
13:36:25.513 Post-shutdown script terminated with exit status=256.
13:36:27.184 Could not connect to JACK server as client. - Overall operation failed. - Unable to connect to server. Please check the messages window for more info.

this is strange, because i've never had any problems with jack in other distro's....I need to be able to record music, but want to stay with Sabayon and not go back to debian based distro's......

anybody know what the problem is here?
thanx

in response to myself, i eventually got it working :) but only with Alsa, buy turning "realtime" off .... I prefer to use Oss
so yeah... if anybody has any suggestions, let me know.

jackd: unknown driver 'oss' What the?
looks like the cause... i even tried installing a alsa-oss compatibility layer to see if that worked, but nope...

and to solve my own problem, here was the answer
Sabayon has OSS support turned off in the make.conf file

i took the - away from oss, reinstalled jackd and qjackctl, and now it works perfect.
Thanx Symon1980 :)

edit:nvm found it, seems I got some other stuff to figure out (esi juli@ great sounding card, a real pain to work with :/)
Hey, sorry for digging this one up.
Where do I find the make.conf file?
Al I find is a "make" file under usr/bin. Which seems to be something else than a conf file. Opened it in nano(as su) and it comes out as if it was a new file(blank)
Yes bit of noob maybe :p
