Yep, you're correct about nspluginwrapper: it's for loading 32-bit plug-ins in 64-bit browsers. I keep forgetting that some folk still use the old-fashioned 32-bit SL

I really don't understand, if I bought a computer last year with a 32-bit processor, should I now dump it into the bin?
Sorry, for the next 5-8 years I will be using this 32-bit computer, because I cannot afford to buy another new one and even if I could, I would regard this as a total waste.
I guess many people like me will share my view.

Hi Fitzcarraldo,
yes I noticed your wink, I didn't mean to be rude or harsh, just wanted to point out a fact. MS - well I know all they care is money and revenue, nevertheless I am attending a MS Visual Basic6 course and I learned that this product has not been modified since 1998, yet still to many applications developed in this tool remain unmigrated to the .net framework, so people still use VB6.

I also understand the Linux community, it might be considered a waste of time maintaining 32 and 64 bit environments, resources used to test them, not to mention the 32bit hardware that still needs to be around.

I've also been using firefox 3.0 and its no less a memory hog than firefox 2

Has anybody run across an ebuild for the Firefox 3 beta ?

I was stumbling around the Gentoo site, and it appeared the ebuild for the FF3 beta was there for earlier releases of the beta, but was not around anymore. However, I am sometimes led astray when wading through the Gentoo forums.

I mentioned it on IRC but not on here. The latest firefox hg build (mercurial = hg, basically its like svn or git) is split into two application, firefox its self uses around 220kb~ of ram and xulrunner is what uses most of the ram, it depends on how long and how many pages you have visited generally 60-150mb~

After reading about some advancements made in Firefox 3 beta 4, I decided to give it a whirl (since I'll be doing a fresh Sabayon install soon enough anyway). So far, it has performed very nicely.

The changes they are making to Firefox and gecko 1.9 are definitely necessary, given Firefox's memory problems, but they are clearly working on it (and actually making progress). I think when Firefox 3 comes out, we'll all remember why we switched to it in the first place (even if you've moved on since then).

been running the beta 4 here on winXP at work and seems really good. I also grabbed the latest swiftfox and liking that also.

I agree FF 3.0 should be golden. Regardless, still better than IE and Konq

Currently running Firefox 3.0 beta 5pre, works great so far.

bets 4 is officially out btw.
