fglrx makes graphic card fan go crazy

Postby hempa » Sat Feb 09, 2008 11:21

hi i have just installed sabayon 3.4 and everytime i login my graphics card fan speeds up and sounds very loud. i dont know what this depends on but i have never had this problems with earlier sabayon versions. i think it is a driver problem i used to have ubuntu a while ago and everytime i tried the fglrx driver the graphic card fan went crazy. and know when i use sabayon 3.4 i have an icon on the desktop that i have never had before on my earlier versions of sabayon it is called ATI Catalyst control center. and i think its whats causing the problem. how can i get rid of this?
and how do i know if i am using fglrx?

Ati control centre is only a easy way to config the ati driver and should not be the problem.

You should be able to to kill acceleration manager / fglrx with the option in the start menu and make sure the ati-driver is current.

Have a look in /etc/X11/xorg.conf to see if you have Driver "fglrx" specified in Section "Device". Also have a look in /var/log/Xorg.0.log and do a search for "fglrx" to see if the driver was loaded successfully. Useful commands from the command line are /usr/bin/glxinfo and /opt/bin/fglrxinfo.
