multimedia: play dvd

some horror story about sabayon:
first I tried with 3.4 mini edition: everything worked fine, sound and kaffeine
I was really impressed.
Then I installed it, but observed a problems: the pager showed the double number
of screens.
New try, with 1.1 professional, life cd: pager is ok --> install it
- first no sound, with some frickeling the sound is ok now
- but impossible to play a dvd with any one of the available FOUR players!!!

I don't understand: in a new installed system which I did not touch, change or
install something, this should work out of the box, as with the life CD, but
why the big difference to the installed system?
Why there are four players?? One is enough, if it works as expected: simply
play a DVD.
Generally: Linux seems to have a problem with the media player, but from
many distro's, this is really my worst case!!
Has anyone a good idea how to fix this?
