Amarok doesn't work after install [Solved]

Postby ExZen » Wed Jan 16, 2008 21:35

I just installed sabayon, and other than compizfusion being kind of sluggish, everything is working great, except that Amarok won't boot. I click on the icon in the menu, and I get the loading animation, and then nothing. I tried sudo emerge amarok in the terminal to see what would happen, but no such luck. Can anyone help me get amarok running? Its one of my fav things about KDE...

Also, my system volume seems low, even though its turned up everywhere...anyone have any ideas why this might be? Thanks a lot for your time.

hiho,

has amarok ever booted? If you have any external mounted drives remove them - most of my problems with amarok have been because of libraries and because of external media. Also, to my best knowledge the most recent builds of amarok aren't stable on sabayon - when re-emerging try to build version 1.4.7 or earlier - those worked for me. Check your levels in ALSA for your quiet sound, usually these will all be somewhere in kmix, the handy little applet. For amarok, if you don't have an obvious removable drive, I'd try just logging in as root and emerging version 1.4.7 - this may solve your problems.

cheers,

Thanks, I updated it and did a reboot, and everything seems to be working fine now. I also fixed the sound level problem, which was just due to ALSA's front speaker volume settings. The only left now that I really want to fix is compiz fusion and the display driver, because its doing the 3d effects somewhat choppily, and I can't get the refresh rate of my monitor above 50hz...

I posted in the 3d-acceleration forum, so hopefully someone can help me there. Thanks for your help!
