Skype; can hear but I'm not heard

Postby PaulFXH » Sun Jan 13, 2008 0:59

Using 3.4f on a MacBook.
I used this guide http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php?title=HOWTO:_Skype_for_Linux(to the letter) because while I can hear the Skype Test Call operator, I can't hear the recording of my own voice. However, it didn't help.
I believe this problem may arise from the fact that Alsamixer shows only ONE input source (line). Neither Mic nor Front Mic are included. I always use Mic as the selected Input Source on the other Linux OSes I have on this machine and Skype works fine there.
So, why don't I see these alternative input sources in Sabayon?
Thanks for any advice

Could be the driver.

Possible fix =
alsaconf
or
alsaconfig
as root.
Might also try to update the kmix version not sure how or even the alsa drivers.

Some audio cards use rear output as alternative to mic input or something similar , could even be the cables if in a desktop and not properly connected as I have done in the past , check motherboard manual.

Best is to start with the most redicilous say cables wrongly connected then try the others or test with say another copy of SL or linux / windows if working then drivers is the likely problem.

Hope this helps.
