PAL/NTSC Confusion with flash videos (Revver/Youtube)

Postby CharlJoubert » Sat Jan 12, 2008 0:24

I'm not actually sure what the problem is.

I try to view videos through some websites like Revver and it displays as if you're sending PAL stuff through NTSC. Weird. Skin is all blue!

I've got no clue where to change this...

Any ideas.

PS. I'm on Sabayon 3.4 e or f I'm not quite sure.

Well, it has nothing to do with PAL or NTSC, that's for sure. Those sites use Adobe Flash. Which browser are you using? Konqueror? Firefox? Opera? Epiphany? ... Anyway, you could try installing the latest version of the package netscape-flash.

Firstly, though, have you synchronised with Portage? If not, use the following commands in a Terminal window as the root user:

Code: Select all
emerge --sync
layman -S

If at the end of the first command it tells you to emerge portage, then do that too:

Code: Select all
emerge portage

By the way, you should not do an emerge --sync more than once a day.

Right, now that your PC's package manager data files are all up to date, you can install the latest version of Flash:

Code: Select all
emerge netscape-flash

Note that the latest version of Flash for SL/Gentoo (netscape-flash-9.0.115 as I write this) does not work with the Konqueror browser, only with Firefox and other browsers that use the Gecko layout engine (viewtopic.php?f=32&t=12230). So stick to Firefox for watching Flash.

While you're at it, have you made sure your /etc/make.conf file is correct? Search the SL Forum as there are numerous threads -- including sticky threads -- on setting up the /etc/make.conf file. Here's a recent thread to get you started: viewtopic.php?f=54&t=12239
