No drives in SuSE menu after update

Postby Tautrimas » Wed Jan 02, 2008 10:51

I updated some packages through equo (kde, maybe hal and some others) and now I don't see any of my partitions in the menu in Computer section. I also can't see any partitions in system:/media.

well check your version of hal, if it is 0.5.10 than downgrade it to previous version as the new hal is broke.

Well, it's 0.5.9.1-r7. Updating to r8, but I don't expect anything.

* EDIT:

Of cource, no difference after update.

Code: Select all
$ ls /media
floppy  h  sr0

I used h for some playing some time ago. Actually, /media is always looking like this, unless I open partition in "system:/media" or in Computer menu. But those two appears to be empty. Neither NTFS nor EXT3 partitions appear there.

when u installed hal-0.5.9.1-r8 did u use equo or emerge

I would use emerge to reinstall it and than make sure you etc-update your config files and than you may have to /etc/init.d/hald restart

It's got to be something with hal

Code: Select all
emerge hal && cfg-update -u && /etc/init.d/hald restart

Now, system:/media is showing what it is supposed to show. After Ctrl+Alt+Backsps menu is still empty. Half a problem solved (:

Another question: when could equo be used? It's fast, but as I see, not ultra reliable. Updating compiz also failed using equo.

Keep in mind that equo just reached beta stage with the release of beta 3.5 and make sure you are keeping up with svn equo as it changes a lot. I don't use the suse kicker so not sure how that all works.

You said u updated a bunch of stuff - wonder if re-emerging the kicker will fix it. ??

Ok, synched and did:
Code: Select all
emerge kicker
. Now, no kicker at all... There is an option to use SUSE kicker from the panel options but nothing happens upon pressing APPLY. Oh, yeah, happens: all programs from topmost taskbar disappears (:

And one more thing: I didn't make out how to compile equo from svn. Anyways, thank's for your helping, wolfden!
