icecast fails to start [Solved]

Hi,

I'm having a problem with icecast.
I emerged icecast, mpd, phpmp, apache2 and php.
mpd runs fine, phpmp also. I can listen to the music on the local soundcard.
Icecast however fails to start.

if I do /etc/init.d/icecast start, I get a message that it is starting, followed by [OK].
if I then do /etc/init.d/icecast status, it tells me that icecast is stopped.

I don't know if there is a logfile somewhere for icecast.
If I connect to localhost:8000, it fails to find the page which is obvious due to the fact that icecast is not running.

any ideas where to start looking for the problem?

I found the sollution.
I ran icecast -c /etc/icecast2/icecast.xml and this revieled a permission problem with the log dir.

this command fixed the issue:

chown icecast:nogroup /var/log/icecast
