Portato GTK don't work

I have try to start "Portato GTK" Icon but it will not open.
Ok, I open a terminal and type portato the hard disk make a lot of noise and i get this text as output.

'gtk' should be installed, but cannot be imported. This is definitly a bug. (No module named vte)


Can anyone tell me in noob language what this mean...

and get rid of portatosourceview thingy.

Ok I have type in the terminal "emerge vte,"
many , many, many numbers and text scrolling on my terminal.
I think it has work t.

You need to do some serious reading before doing any more compiling:

(especially the Portage introduction in the SL Wiki and in the Gentoo Handbook, but read all the other stuff too. Otherwise you will end up screwing up your installation.)
