Microsoft Office - Dictionary Alternative?

Postby thejinx0r » Sun Oct 07, 2007 18:38

Hey Guys,

I've been a long time user of Microsoft Office.
Every feature that I somewhat use in MS is in OpenOffice.
The only thing that is keeping me from switching over completely to Linux is the dictionary/spell check with OpenOffice.

With OpenOffice, it literally only checks the spelling where as in MS Word, it does spell check and sentence check (it makes sure that tense of a verb is proper or checks for plural and stuff). I have not quite found something like that on my own. Google isn't very helpful either (well at least in this case for me.)

Do any of you have a suggestion on which dictionary to use and where I can find such feature similar to MS Word?
(Wine is not an option, currently trying it)

Thanks for any suggestions :)

This may be worth looking at:
http://lingucomponent.openoffice.org/grammar.html
or consider abiword which does have a grammar checker.

I never thought of grammar checker as part of something apart. I always assumed that it was a spellchecker feature. Maybe Google can help me more on it now :)

As for abiword, I've honnestly never tried it. I just thought it was like wordpad. Anyways, I'm going to emerge it now :)

Thanks a million :D
