VMWare WS-Compile modules for Kernel 3.x?

Postby alemani » Wed Nov 16, 2011 20:13

Hello,

I am trying to compile the necessary modules to run VMware workstation 7.x on kernel:

Code: Select all
ivan@kamino ~ $ uname -a
Linux kamino 3.0.0-sabayon #1 SMP Tue Oct 25 17:37:25 UTC 2011 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8400 @ 2.26GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
ivan@kamino ~ $

I use to ran vmware workstation on kernels 2.6.35 and 2.6.36 without problems.

Running the command vmware on CLI to run the program I get the following:

Code: Select all
kamino ~ # vmware

Since the above says Using 2.6.x kernel build system not sure if that could be the problem?

And a "dialog box" shows on my X environment, displaying a path were I can check a log for "more information" about the issue, here's the full content of the log:

Before running the vmware command I installed the following package in order to have the source/headers of the current running kernel:

Code: Select all

I've googled/duckduckgoed LOL! for information about this on Sabayon/Gentoo but no useful hits have come up to help me solve this.

Can you please give me some advise on how can I get vmware workstation running on kernel 3.x?

If you need more info I will gladly provide it!
Thank you in advance!

First, if you can, update to kernel 3.2, and make sure you run VMware 8.0.1 or higher.

Follow these instructions:
