libGL.so.1 error in vmware 6.0.2 running on Sabayon 3.4E 64-

Postby gallienus » Sun Mar 02, 2008 18:46

I'm running vmware workstation 6.0.2 in Sabayon 3.4E 64-bit. When I try
to enable accelerated 3d graphics in my win2k and linux virtual
machines I get this error.

libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
The 3-D features of the display card will be disabled.

I've tried creating a symlink from /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 to
/usr/lib/opengl/nvidia/lib/libGL.so.1 using this command,
ln -s /usr/lib/opengl/nvidia/lib/libGL.so.1 /usr/lib/libGL.so.1

Then I tried /usr/lib32/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/libGL.so.1 and then
/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/libGL.so.1 none of the links worked. Does
anyone know if vmware is looking for libGL.so.1 in a directory other
than /usr/lib?

Thank in advance for any help.

Would updating the nvidia drivers solve this problem?

After an upgrade from Sabayon 3.5.1 to Sabayon 4 the following line solved the missing libGL.so.1 problem (at least for me):

ln -s /usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/libGL.so.1 /usr/lib
