I'd like to know if you have a preferred way of updating the whole system. I tried:
- Code: Select all
emerge --newuse --deep --update world
but I ended up messing with problems in ebuilds, ATI drivers that don't support the latest xorg ABI version and so on, probably because the default branch is testing. In addition, how can you update the /usr/local/portage overlay?
Here are a couple of glitches I found (and I can remember of):
a) The CHOST var in make.conf causes problems with the glibc 2.4 update (it complais about requiring i486 or later), and a setting of i686xxx or something else causes some ebuilds to fail while looking for the compiler.
b) The "sudo kbdrate" command in .bashrc requires that every non-root user perform a sudo (with password) on every non-login shell.
I'm using reiser4. Is it reliable enough in your experience?
TIA
