Hello!
Has anyone ever considered/tried using systemd on sabayon?
Before you ask why: I'd like to try it. I'd also like to see just how customizable sabayon is - it seems gentoo can be bent any way desired, so I'd expect sabayon to not fall behind in this regard. And yes: I do not expect any kind of support for systemd-related problems I might face in the future in #sabayon or in this forum.
Also: I'm fine with mixing entropy and portage, I'm already doing so. I've not used gentoo before using sabayon and I've only been using sabayon for about 6 months, though.
Ok, getting on...
I just read the gentoo wiki on systemd [1] and there's a couple of things I'm not sure about:
In the wiki page it is mentioned that the kernel needs to be configured with special flags. So I'll need to compile my own kernel? I'm not sure if the options mentioned in the wiki page are already enabled, i.e. I do not know the mapping of these menu entries to values in /usr/src/linux-wallawalla/.config. Any help on that and maybe a pointer to how a custom kernel is compiled on sabayon (if needed) would be great.
Second thing: there is a systemd-overlay so I guess I'll use that. It provides baselayout-systemd, systemd-units and dnsmasq. It sounds reasonable to emerge these three in addition to the sys-apps/systemd ebuild but the "baselayout" ebuild sounds dangerous - will it mess with sys-apps/baselayout from sabayon?
Asked another way: if something goes wrong - will it be enough to de-emerge the systemd-stuff?
Any hints/help/advice would be great.
Cheers,
Thomas
