Sabayon 9 upgrade, not able to login [Solved]

Postby penguisher » Sat Jul 07, 2012 23:15

Hello Everyone,

Ever since I updated a few days ago, I am not able to login to my system anymore.
My system starts normally, but after I fill in my user name and password the screen turns black
and after that it shows the background image of Sabayon during boot time for a very short period of time
(the one with the black "square" where all the initialization is shown).
After that the login screen is shown again.

I have been looking on the forum here for similar problems, but I was not able to find anything.
Can someone please help me out?
Thanks,

Penguisher

Allrigth sorry about that.

I am using Sabayon 9 64 bit version with kernel 3.4.0.
The command "df -h" showed that I should have enough free disk space.

As for the hardware question, I don't really know what you specifically need to know.
The problem occurs at my laptop with a Core2Duo T9400 and 4 GB's of RAM, is this sufficient?

I only checked the rc.log and dmesg from /var/log, both logs didn't show anything weird.
If I can / have to check other logs, please inform me as I was not able to gather any information of the other logs in /var/log.

I hope I've provided the right information now.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

I use Sabayon 9 64 bit Gnome edition, with the sabayon-limbo and sabayon-weekly repositories enabled.

I didn't know about the .xsession-log, but now I found it in my home directory.
It said something about not being able to execute xsm, so I searched for the package xsm.
It was indeed not installed, after installing that everything is fine again.

Thanks for your patience and your help.

you don't want to be running limbo and weekly at the same time

fixing title to [Solved] as per http://forum.sabayon.org/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=17059
