update broke gnome3 [Solved]

Postby mohan43u » Sun Apr 29, 2012 18:45

Hi guys,

I updated my system after ~3months and it seems gnome3 was broken(I actually suspect it is because of gdm). gdm login works but the background is not the usual sabayon one, and my user icon didn't appear. Once I logged-in, white color desktop icons appear and there is no activities button. When I double click the icon, a window appear without title bar.

.xsession-errors:

Is someone came across this issue?? I asked in irc, no response, I'm asking in forum now hoping I'll get something here. I really don't want to piss the maintainers suspecting this is a config issue and not really a bug.

Missing gtk+ icons/font render problems?

On my test weekly system I noticed that gcc wasn’t updated first. The order of things sometimes matter! If you see messages like this error while loading shared libraries: libffi.so.6 during package updates, you are surely affected by this. So if you notice problems with icons go missing, weird colors on gtk apps:

# equo install x11-libs/pango x11-libs/gdk-pixbuf x11-libs/gtk+:2 x11-libs/gtk+:3

Wow!! this is great, issue got fixed.

Yes, I noticed libffi.so.6 missing errors when packages were updating, Once the libffi package updated, those errors didn't appear. Even I did reinstall all the dependencies of gtk+ with below commandline, but it didn't help to fix the problem.

# equo install --configfiles $(equo remove --deep --pretend gtk+ | grep sabayonlinux.org | awk '{print $4;}')

What kind of magic your command did to my system? Could you please explain what is the issue? how your command fixes that issue?
