I have in my Job, an old comp with an old NVIDIA GForce 5500 video board.
in my recent upgrades, the system upgrade to a 11 XORG...
it no more worked.
i see the posts of Wolfden:
http://wolf911.us/wgo/?p=667
http://www.sabayon.org/article/sabayon-8-vs-xorg-vs-nvidia
In my comp, even when i downgraded to the xorg 1.10.4, re install drivers, made tests, tried nv, nouveau etc... change xorg.conf etc...etc..., install nvidia compiling it to kernel etc.....
my results are> ]
with kernel 3.2.0, driver 173.14.31, the system seems to work, but in login screen it freezes and looses control of mouse and keyboard, needing manual resetting...
Nouveau working, but not in a good manner, the system freezes, not open login screen, not have X, sometimes, xdm load bu return to command bash etc... Erratic and unstable....
'nv" driver, 2D, works, but obsolete and without any effect...
Vesa not works, only return to bash.....
Please, what was the xorg-server that was used prior my upgrades... What is the "best" combination of kernel/xorg-server drivers for my 5500?
i dont want to "loose" Sabayon, i dont want to use other linux. if a particular xorg/kernel/drivers works good, i will mask the upgrades for not change...
in case of not possible, is possible to use an old Sabayon Issue, without update-upgrade, I have the ISO of the Sabayon 4.0-r1, full, with many and many packages and i enjoy it
