webmin not in Entropy

Postby DATsence » Thu Mar 22, 2012 13:17

Hi,

First of all, thanks to everyone who has been working on Sabayon - no distro can match it on combining performence, hw detektion or easyness (or more advance if digging under the hood). Truth is, gentoo was alittle to much work :).

So the problem:

Couple of days ago, I installed client (acer verizon) and server (P3 256mb), with SL8-xfce and SL8-spinbase-server. Then:
Code: Select all
equo update && equo install entropy equo --nodeps && equo upgrade && equo conf update && equo cleanup

Then on server:
Code: Select all
equo install webmin
or
Code: Select all
equo search webmin
and it reports not found. So i tried layman -s and then emerge webmin. No luck. Same thing on the client - on sulfur i can see usermin but not webmin.

I've tried
Code: Select all
equo deptest && equo libtest
Clean. Also tried the forum, but the only thing i found was something about a menelkit overlay for portage, but that one returned emty.

Only thing I can think of is that it is masked, but not sure why it should be... http://gentoo-portage.com/app-admin/webmin shows it should atlest be in Portage, but Entropy is the preffered way.

Any suggestions are much appreciated...

Re: webmin not in Entropy or Portage

I do see webmin with emerge.
Code: Select all
emerge -p webmin
give me the version 1.580

Have you sync emerge?
Code: Select all
emerge --sync

Thanks for reminding me of --sync. Been years since i used gentoo/portage...

Anyway, --sync worked and found webmin, however, neither emerge entropy or emerge webmin worked. Both failed on kompiling. Guess ill read upon portage again (its a pain in the pita and the reason i leaft it  )

I'll reinstall and try again only with portage...

I dont mind doing cli over ssh, and finding a another distro just for webmin would be difficult, considering the age of the server... compiling from source is an option, but it would not be included in system wide upgrade...

Does any devs or anyone else knows why its not in Entropy or doesnt find it either?

EDIT: changed the subject title...

Perhaps not much help here but I have it installed.
I downloaded from the webmin site and unpacked it to /opt/webmin. Now here is where I'm vague as I don't recall doing anything else, but it is all running OK.

Good lluck
