Just a 'heads up': I've just installed ati-drivers-12.2, and the XVideo (Xv) problem has been fixed. I can again play videos with media players set to use XVideo (Xv) instead of OpenGL. Likewise, the X.Org Server 1.11.4 no longer crashes when the other party enables their Web cam in Skype.
