formatting mbr inside linux

hey. is there a way to format the mbr inside linux? lilo, which currently resides in my laptop's mbr, is not being overwritten by grub when i installed sabayon mini edition. in windows i know about the "fdisk /mbr" command but how do i format the mbr inside linux? thanks for any help.

Well, I'm sure you can, but when I have MBR probs, I use a PCLinuxOS minime livecd and run a binary file which restore the MBR to what it was before grub or lilo; then create another grub.conf or menu.lst. Details are here:

The sabayonlinux live cd has a recovery - but I am on sure how it works - maybe cvill can expand on that.

I used this guide to restore my grub:

Just launch the installer from the livecd and click on "I only want to configure the Boot".

That's right! I forgot about that, and it's a much simpler and quicker solution.
