Sabayon re-spin in a month or two?

Postby R3MF » Sun Oct 01, 2006 11:44

what is Sabayons policy on respins?

I really like Sabayon, the combination of drivers, codecs and desktop 'bling' is wonderful, perfect for the PC in the living room.

but, i'd like to see:
> the nVidia 9 series drivers
> a 2.6.18 or later kernel with full support for P965/nForce5 series chipsets
> possibly X.org 7.2
> the new KDE kickstart window
> a better organsied application menu
> less flakey USB support
> koffice 1.6 + digicam 9
> kde 3.5.5.

so what is next for Sabayon, is a v3.1 in a month or two, or a v4.0 in eight to twelve months time?

best regards

we will not be doing "respins" me thinks, only upgrades. So you will be using things like .1 .2 .5 etc and 4.0 in like 6 months to a year, we're going to be talking about redevelopment w/in the dev team but the mini already has everything you've listed that is actually in portage

so patience and all will be well :)

i htink when he says usb support he is talking about autoconfigureing while booted.

like in my old ubuntu days it would detect devices plugged in while the system is booted (maybe it just auto modprobes or something but i dont get modprobe much anyway)

like for example if i were to unplug my wireless device right now and plug it in again my sabayon system would not refresh that it is plugged in unless i reboot... (not that i actually would do that but theoretically)

just little stuff like that which windows can do but linux distros usually dont...

and not being able to mount my externel HD formatted with NTFS.

SUSE will at least mount it and allow read access.

it just fails in Sabayon

while I thank you, that really isn't the answer i'm looking for.
i'd like it to work out-of-the-box without me having to tinker under the hood.

i note the re-spin of the mini edition, is there still no chance of a DVD re-spin?
