2 MAJOR problems

Postby Goatee » Sat Sep 30, 2006 17:50

1. I've downloaded 3.0 stable (via bitorrent 4 days solid) and i'm trying to burn it with RC2 and it won't, K3B comes up with an error:

growisofs: 6.1
mkisofs: 2.1.1a05

growisofs
-----------------------
:-( unable to anonymously mmap 33554432: Resource temporarily unavailable

growisofs command:
-----------------------
/usr/bin/growisofs -Z /dev/hda -use-the-force-luke=notray -use-the-force-luke=tty -use-the-force-luke=dummy -speed=12 -use-the-force-luke=bufsize:32m -gui -graft-points -volid K3b data project -volset -appid K3B THE CD KREATOR (C) 1998-2005 SEBASTIAN TRUEG AND THE K3B TEAM -publisher -preparer -sysid LINUX -volset-size 1 -volset-seqno 1 -sort /tmp/kde-david/k3bxIABua.tmp -rational-rock -hide-list /tmp/kde-david/k3bRGzJ3b.tmp -joliet -hide-joliet-list /tmp/kde-david/k3bhSQOVa.tmp -full-iso9660-filenames -iso-level 2 -path-list /tmp/kde-david/k3bewNJmc.tmp

It only does this with DVDs.

2. Emerge can't get onto the internet, the connection is there 'cos konqui (and KDE programs generally but not some parts of amarok) can.
Firefox can't.

I've even disabled my router's firewall but nothing so I left all outgoing ports closed all incoming ones open and put it back.

A port scan suggests that I only have ports:
111, 139, 445, open on my machine.

If anyone knows what to do about these problems that would be a great help, thanks.

yep, you need to either try the upgrade of dvd+rw-tools to 6.1-r1 (whichhh is supposedly stable now) but if that doesn't work, then downgrade dvd+rw-tools to 6.0 as that's what I had to do

Thanks,
but.......
How do I go about that without portage?
Or how do I fix portage?

Here's what happens:

>>> Emerging (1 of 1) app-cdr/dvd+rw-tools-6.1-r1 to /
>>> Downloading 'http://distfiles.gentoo.org/distfiles/dvd+rw-tools-6.1.tar.gz'
--21:02:18-- http://distfiles.gentoo.org/distfiles/d ... 6.1.tar.gz
=> `/usr/portage/distfiles/dvd+rw-tools-6.1.tar.gz'
Resolving distfiles.gentoo.org... 1.0.0.0
Connecting to distfiles.gentoo.org|1.0.0.0|:80... failed: Connection timed out.

What's going wrong?

Ok, i d/l'd dvd+rw-tools to 6.1-r1
although it claims they're installed, and did:
make, make install. (there is no ./configure)
Make install gives this error (when in debug mode):

Must remake target `install'.

My reaction was y'wot!?!

Anyone got anything more helpful to say?

I think that the 'net connection issues are to do with DNS.
If you give firefox the IP it will go, same if you open it in konqui first.
