I can't seem to log in hehe. OK everything goes normally and the sabayon booting screen comes up. Then it finishes all the services and shows me this command-prompt thing. I figure out i have to log in there, and enter my username. It prompts me for my password, and I type it in and say enter. Then it says "this is _________, sabayon" or something, leaving me still at the command line. WHERE IS KDE?? I'm sorry I'm really a noob, tried ubuntu, then kubuntu, now sabayon. Please help. :(

are you running the LiveCD or did you do an install? What boot options are you using? Using the mini or dvd?

User Account Problem?
If you're using the livecd the password is sabayonuser and root for the root account so username = user password

If you installed it you should have setup a user account and password during the install.

How to add a user:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/faq.xml#useradd

if your able to login - try a different boot parameter, but it's hard to say what is what without know more of what your actually doing.

I get through all this:

http://shots.osdir.com/slideshows/735_th/5.gif
http://shots.osdir.com/slideshows/735_th/6.gif

Then it looks sort of like this: Image

Except it asks me to log in, and I do, with my username, then password. Like this:

Username: bob
PASSWORD: ________ (you can't see it)

bob~ >\ _

or something like that. I can't remember exactly what it says.

Anyway, I have miniEdition, installed on hard drive, no problems installing. I ran "sabayon xgl opengl= ati" before I installed. Everything instaled right and rebooted, coming to this thing.
 Please help.[/img]

So you're trying to use XGL
you have an ati card - which one?
You did the mini install - so apparently the XGL worked for you off the LiveCD

You can log in, but your desktop is not coming up is what I understand so far. I can't help ya out on the ati thing, but maybe someone else can. ATI support in linux blows, but SL has the ati-drivers installed. Others are having problems with ATI and XGL too.

Yeah thats right. I just can't get to KDE or the Login Window. It stays at the weird command prompt thing. So anyway XGL worked like a breeze (my god Windows blows compared to Linux) in the live CD. I chose the KDE environment, obviously. Maybe it was a problem with what I did when it rebooted. I pressed Alt+F1 for "Verbose Mode", and it brought up just about the same screen as the problem. So can you tell me if this is supposed to happen, or am I supposed to face the Login Window to get to KDE? I'm not much of savvy when it comes to Linux, but I have some basic knowledge. Anyways thank you for helping, I hope I get to use Sabayon Linux soon (preferably today or tommorow, lol).

Oh P.S: My graphics card is an ATI Mobility 9000, an average-modern card, its 64MB.

I'm going to try and delete my partition, then, using just "sabayon xgl" as my boot, install the OS again.

Maybe I did something wrong during the installation (hard considering the fact I wasn't there at the time of installation.) :D

try just booting default, most likely a video card problem

Yeah I did a lot of research and found a way to get into the environment. Its all great but there are like black lines and laggy windows when I do anything cool. ATI... most PC users use ATI, I love this distro but can't use it with crappy drivers. :(

SO I have one more question: Which is better for an ATI card, aiglx or xgl?
