Programs and features I would like to see in Sabayon

Postby Pinguy » Wed Sep 27, 2006 23:46

I would like to see some video editing programs, but all I would like to see is programs so I can listen to music and watch some really cool visuals and to be able to make and burn dvd's and to surf the web and be able to view all the contents on the page ie. the videos.

I know most of these programs are all ready on there I am just listing all the programs I would like to see in any distro.

* Firefox
* Thunderbird
* sunbird
* The new flash this can be done with wine.
* Evince
* java
* The codecs to play every video type
* Mplayer
* Winamp again this can be done with wine
* Amarok
* VLC
* picasa
* Gimp
* irfanview (using wine)
* NVU
* google earth
* OpenOffice
* Gnomebaker
* Gtkpod
* Azureus
* limewire
* DVDShrink
* Cinelerra
* Kino
* Konversation
* Kopete
* Tovid
* Avidemux
* KLVEmkdvd
* Kmenc
* Kdenlive
* Video-DVD::Rip

And if it is not to hard to do I would like to see IzPack part of Sabayon so it is easy to install software and games and hopefully an easy way to install windows software as most window software now works using wine.

And one control panel for setup

Once installed you can emerge till your heart is content to make your own customized Sabayon.

no idea why you would want winamp when you have amarok and xmms :shock:

The DVD is packed full of great software

Which one are you using? 64 bit or 32 bit mini or dvd?

As far as installing software - Doesn't get any easier than Portage

I think you need to actually try the dvd out first before posting this :P

sabayon x64 3.0

I just thought it might be good for the next realess to have some window aps like winamp as i do like the visuals in winamp, and some video editing programs, as videolinux is gaining some popularity as it is already setup to edit videos.

I know you can emerge till your hearts content to get your own customized Sabayon but many newbies get put off by that, the only reason i bring this up because this could be the best distro/OS for the every day desktop user all it needs to do is to have it setup with programs that the every day user needs and an easy way to install new programs by using a program like IzPack.

Most people are still using windows and know of windows apps but when they give linux ago all the programs are very unfamiliar to them including the names of linux programs and what they do, but if it is setup with programs that can make and burn dvd's edit photos with picasa (as some people find it hard to use gimp) and aMSN so they can still talk to there friends on msn and use there webcam.

I started this tread to see what programs people would like to see in Sabayon and what features should be added.

I'm gonna have to go with cvill64 on this one and say you should try it first. You're not really making valid comparisons (no offense). For example:
-The Gimp has a very different purpose than Picasa. Try f-spot, if you're looking for photo-organisation and simple gamma correction, rotation, etc. You can also run Picasa on Linux.
-I know for SURE that gaim supports MSN (I'm on it right now!), and that comes with Sabayon.
-For burning CD's and DVD's, try K3b, also comes with SAbayon.
-XMMS is a Linux winamp clone, which supports the visualizations you want.
By the way, portage is a very easy way to install software. See my most recent post in the "is Sabayon right for me" thread.
