Gentoo Announces 'Seeds'

Postby wolfden » Thu Sep 21, 2006 11:59

"Gentoo has announced a new project called Seeds. Aiming to provide out of the box images for various common tasks, it could be the answer to the common complaint that installing and customizing Gentoo takes too long. However, with other developers and Council members complaining that the project was improperly set up and those backing the project refusing to back off, lending weight to recent claims that Gentoo is suffering from management problems, will what could be a massive step forward degenerate into a repeat of the Sunrise disaster?"

The Gentoo turmoil just seems to continue on and on.

Yes I agree, especially after the review MadPenguin did on the Gentoo install. The guy gave up after 10 days of battling with it.

just keep in mind that SL is already a well-developed project that is well on it's way to maturity. I don't foresee this seeds project coming close to what SL has to offer any time soon. It seems like there's to little direction to the project at the moment. It really makes me wonder if the Gentoo project should even bother...maybe they should just take a look at whats out there (like SL and Kororaa) and offer their blessing and some of thier development resources instead of trying to throw together something from scratch...
