I (think I) upgraded the kernel following the howto. Still nothing.

iwconfig shows no wlan.

Is there another command step to "readd bcm...support into the kernel?"

Also, if one installs clean from DVD, does the "Upgrade Install" used first upgrade to this new kernel?

the 3.0 stable dvd is 2.6.17, you can only do upgrades using the dvd

Did you remember to modprobe for bcm43xx ?

If ist still not working, follow the howto and see if ndiswrapper will work better with the newer kernel

This despite following (I think) all instructions from this thread, as well as the MiniEdition bcm... and the "tried this on several distro's" one.

Will try the ndisw again.

BTW, I really enjoy working on Sabayon. It seems very "right." (Except of course for this wireless bugaboo.)

But it will happen.

PS: When (and if) one of these things actually does fix the driver/bcm problem, will KNetMan automatically just recognise the wlan, or will one have to see it in Settings>Internet>Wireless Network, or how to know and setup/configure the wlan?

When upgrading the kernel, what do you do at this point:

That's where you can actually reconfigure your kernel specifically for your machine, but I suggest just exciting unless you know what you're doing

Eventually when you learn more, it becomes very simple to recompile a kernel, but don't worry about that right now

Broadcom support in general is crap (on any OS). Most Broadcom cards need drivers installed after installing Windows, even. It's just that the manufacturers install the drivers beforehand.

Living in a somewhat out-of-the-way place, I had a friend coming through go to Fry's and buy me a wireless-g usb plug-in. He chose the Linksys WUSB54GSC.

I plugged it inthis morning, eagerly anticipating wireless Sabayon at last. No card found.

Kinfocenter. USB.

There was the dreaded word: "Broadcom."

Still no joy.

it might not use the broadcom 43xx driver though, most likely it doesn't

use ndiswrapper and see if it works, either that, or take it back and get one that offers
decent linux support
