failed install

Postby jerry » Sun Sep 10, 2006 19:58

I've had numerous installation failures from the ftp download of the dvd version of SL 3.0rc2.
For starters it takes this machine over ten minutes to boot into the desktop.
The md5sum checks out.

The failure occurs at about 49.95 percent, left it on all night last nite, and was still hung this morning, to get to 49.95 % takes over 4 hours.
I have tried the manual format, auto format, cfdisk.
I have not tried the manual install.
There does not seem to be a method for connecting to the net via adsl, no adsl-setup,tried the internetkiosk, nothing there to connect to, and in addition, fluxbox was the desktop that was loaded when the kiosk was input into the boot prompt. The desktop froze after approx ten minutes, keyboard was unresponsive, master power button was the only thing left to do.
TK-pppoe is on the disk, but, I couldn't find it on the menu system.
There is something with adsl-, can't remember what, tried that, no such luck, as it wants some file in /etc/ppp/providers.
Tried PON with my providers name, nothing.
Even if I could have gotten onto the net, I looked for some firewalling software on the disk, couldn't find that either.
I have downloaded the mini version and that installed fine onto my laptop, but there seems to be lots of problems with the dvd.

That's a problem with your burn ;) Redownload, and check md5sum and then verify your burns each time

I had the same problem while testing and that was the solution
