LiveCD and impressive window effects

Postby somekool » Tue Aug 29, 2006 10:45

I tried out the LiveCD today. it was very good. but all the window effects shown in the video were disabled. do I have to install something? How to get all the flashy stuff?

thanks

I voted No. I only ever use KDE, but I don't think that people shouldn't have the choice to use another alternative, and to have those other options on the DVD ready and easily accessible.

Perhaps yes if we were gearing this towards corporate users of some sort. But we're mainly just trying to show people the power of gentoo by giving them a preconfigured system and lots of choices to play with! :D

great, thanks !
it works fine with the xgl option

what is the software that makes the expose/kompose like effects?

I have not yet figured what is the difference between the three hot corners? two seems obvious but the top-left is weird.

also, there is a bug with the kpager, it only display one desktop. it seems to happen after X flicks once. probably when the xgl kicks in. I'm going in the config to change the amount of desktop (add some more) but the pager only shows the first one. but when KDE is fresly boot it show them all. then X flick once and only the first one remain.

anyone got that bug?

great work on Sabayon Linux guys

@somekool,

I noticed that too, but you really don't need the pager function with xgl anyway:
In case you havent noticed yet, hold down Ctrl+Alt and hit arrow left or right 8)

if you have a scroll mouse, just move the pointer to the edge of the screen and scroll,
same effect.

In "Compiz Setup" you can use the cube plugin to change the number of sides the cube has.

emerge the quinnstrom compiz and plugins and then update to xorg 7.1 to fix a few things :)

^ above will be default in stable

@roman

yeah xgl is very good. but I still would like a working pager. not to select workspaces or windows but to see an overview of the whole thing.

@cvill64

thanks
