ATI ES1000 Chipset

Would it be possible for X to be smart enough to know that the ATI ES1000 server chipset should use the VESA driver and NOT the Radeon? ES1000 is only 2D? I know I can specify the VESA X driver when I boot but WHEN [ ] I forget I have to start all over... LOL
