Still no sound - not a laptop [Solved]

Works on Ubuntu Dapper 6.06, Windows XP, and the Sabayon 3.4a liveDVD. Didn't work on Ubuntu Feisty 7.04, and doesn't work on Sabayon 3.4a post-installation.

Desktop computer with a SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Platinum soundcard.

I've already run alsaconf and adjusted volumes in both alsamixer and kmix.

Since the onboard audio is showing up, did you try and see if you have output from that sound card? If so, try disabling it with a bios setting and see if your audigy will work

Linux will detect and use the first sound card it finds (your onboard one) this is probably why your getting no sound.

Do as 4walters said, if it does have sound, disable the onboard card though your bios.

The onboard sound device was originally set as card 0, and it didn't produce sound prior or after using alsaconf and the mixers. I don't know if that's sufficient to determine whether it works?

OK, I'm not sure but I think there might be two things to try..

First: looking at the output from amixer;

notice Front Left and Front Right Playback is set [off]? I'm not sure but the playback for master appears to be turned off. This is where the second part of this comes in. Doing a little digging I ran across a similar problem for a similar sound card.

well here I am again found the solution.
For some reason it changed itself to digital from analog, here is how to change it back.
open terminal type alsamixer
a panel will open up it looks like there are about 2 little boxes with mm in them and 5 sliders but if you keep pushing the arrow key right till you find the little boxes with mm in it for analog and I also had to swith the oss one said sigtel I believe was almost all the way over put the focus on the little boxes and hit m that will trip the switch and turn it on. hit escape to close.

When you reboot you will loose it unless you save it

sudo alsactl store
is the save command i believe...good luck

I'm not sure if the layout will be the same because I don't have that hardware, but check to see if those option are just off the viewable part of the console. If this doesn't work, my friend, someone smarter than me will have to jump in here and give more advice.
