No Sound? [Solved]

Postby Scarred » Fri Aug 03, 2007 20:22

I just downloaded and installed the DVD of Sabayon. And I have to say I like it alot! Everything worked straight out of the box! Except sound. I have no sound.... I've tried alsaconf and tried unmuting everything in alsamixer. Can someone please help me?

I've installed 3.4a on my laptop (HP dv2120us) if that means anything. My audio card is something called:

Conexant HD Audio, made by nVidia I think.

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestion(s)/help.

I'll throw my hat in too -- I installed 3.4a, and I have no sound. I know it works b/c I got that music that plays while the live DVD is loading (and it worked with SuSE).

This is a great distro, but that's a showstopper for me.

i tried to run alsaconf in a terminal, and got
Code: Select all
bash: alsaconf: command not found

i also tried to search for "alsaconf" and "alsa" in the menu searchbox... nothing. does this portend that alsa is not installed? and this may be a dumb question, but how would i find out if it is? i guess i haven't had to be concerned about that before.

does this have to do with use flags?

===============================================================================

Now ALSA is ready to use.
For adjustment of volumes, use your favorite mixer.

 Have a lot of fun!

What's up with /etc/modprobe.devfs? What "automatically" generates that file?

I also tried update-modules force to no avail.

ALSACONF in my Sabayon 4.3a on my Toshiba P105 Laptop

Postby mbaker » Fri Aug 10, 2007 11:34

I have an Intel sound card. I have tried ALSACONF under root and it says all was fine but no sound. I went to KMIX and tried the volumes and still no sound. I have a Toshiba Laptop P105 Core Duo P4 with 2 Gigs Memory, Nvidia 7600GS, 200 Gig HD etc etc ect. ALSA CONFIG Version 1.0.14rc2 detecting hda-intel Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio card.

It says Ok Sound Drivr is configured. And then it prepares the card for playing and then it says OK.

Now ALSA is ready to use.
For Adjustment of volumes, use your favorite mixer

Have a lot of fun.

But I am not having any fun. I might as well be deaf. LOL

Also another issue I am having is my WIRELESS card is working but it will not connect to my router or even any router with or without security settings. What can I do for these fixes. I travel alot with my laptop and would really like to enjoy the use of Sabayon but if the sound and wireless do not work it's the same as running MS DOS 6.1. USELESS! Can someone help me. I am totally new to Linux and have been reading up on the ALSACONF in the ALSA web pages but no one seems to have my problem there.

Thanks

sound is working

my wife had turned the speakers (5.1 surround) off a few days ago -- which was before I installed sabayon (she was 'annoyed' at the background music from the live DVD); and since I can't normally see the little green light on the sub that tells me the speakers are on, I didn't know what the hell was going on... needless to say, I'm 'annoyed' at that!!

thanks anyway though
