HP keyboard model 5187 - volume keys don't work in 3.4

In 3.26 & 3.3 I could always get the multimedia keys, volume & mute only, to work perfectly by choosing the HP Multimedia Keyboard from the settings. However since 3.4 loop 2 only the mute button works. Pressing the volume keys brings up the volume box, but it only jumps between 59% and 81% with no change in volume. Is there any way I can fix this?
