Well, SL 3.3 Open GL works for livedvd/cd. For 3.4a, Open GL doesn't/fails at boot to livedvd/cd, ATi Catalyst shows up but it uses/indicates Mesa not fglrx. Any tricks ? What's even stranger, Beryl works under Mesa, that is with Ubuntu 7.04.

from ati site
(EE) fglrx(0): [agp] unable to acquire AGP, error ""xf86_ENODEV""xf86_ENODEV""

This is not a problem with the display driver.

Version 2.6 kernels require a second kernel module in addition to agpgart, which should be named similar to the manufacturer of your motherboard AGP chipset. This error message should occur if the other agp module is not loaded.

This issue can be worked around as follows:

1. First make sure that agpgart is loading properly.
2. To find out which AGP controller your motherboard uses, issue the following command: lspci | grep AGP
3. To find a list of AGP related kernel modules installed on your machine, issue the following command and look for a module (*.ko file) that suits your AGP Controller: ls /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/char/agp
4. Use the modprobe command (as root) to load the module. For example: On a motherboard using a VIA® AGP Controller, you would load the via-agp.ko using modprobe as follows (notice that the trailing .ko is omitted): modprobe via-agp

Check the modprobe manpage for more information on loading kernel modules.

5. To verify that the AGP module is already loaded, run lsmod as root. With the X server running and the connection established, the usage count of this module must be greater than zero.

If you cannot find a suitable agp module for your motherboard, then you may want to upgrade to the latest version of the Linux kernel, or check your motherboard manufacturer's website for more information.

Does Sabayon Linux Rev 3.4e fix this openGL issue in the dvd/livecd ? I noticed n the notes it indicates it fixed and allows Compiz Fusion to run with ATi/AMD video cards ? Not that I expect 100 % guarantees, but before I go after 4 GB of dvd download, just thought I'd ask this question regarding an issue I ran into with 3.4a.

yes it fixes it, assuming you've your ati card working properly, remember that you need to fix your agp gart following that guide I've posted before

I have the same problem

Postby sylver » Sat Aug 11, 2007 17:38

I've got an ati radeon 9600 pro, exactly the same problem, can you tell me if you tried the new 3.4e and it workd?

i think adp gart is native to kernel 2.6 ,so why in the name of God i need to load manualy. And yes, my system is 100% working.I've tested some other distros, it worked fine, but i like sabayon.

No haven't tried 3.4e and being told to fix my video card and load a module manually isn't what I wanted to hear as well, especially since the module didn't exist on the VT version I downloaded. I wanted to hear that when the dvd is inserted and boots up, the screen that indicates opengl is functional says that and graphics acceleration is a selectable option.

I do see that the newer 3.4e is larger than the 3.4a dl. But this might be more to do with a more robust entropy feature ?
