Blank (black) monitor on launch of Sabayon 3.4a x64

Postby updatedb » Wed Jul 25, 2007 18:44

Hi,

I have a HP PC with an ATI Radeon X1650 graphical card, and an Acer AL 1917 screen supporting a resolution up to 1280*1024. When I launch the Sabayon 3.4 DVD, after the startup progress screen, my monitor says "input not supported". I tried launching with graphics accelleration disabled, and I gave the order to use the 1280*1024 splash screen... to no avail.

Any ideas would be welcome...

Well I got the same problem only, my computer is a little different. My monitor is an Acer AL1916W(idescreen) and my gfx is ATI X600 Pro. I too uses the 64 bit version. I got the same message as updatedb. I try connecting another monitor a old CRT from Medion, and it would work but the resolutions was set to 1920x1200 much higher than the 1440x900 my TFT monitor supports. I tried to change the resolution via ATI Catalyst, but when I rebooted or shut the PC down and later booted again it was back to the 1920x1200 resolution. From this point I couldn't get much further. I hope it helped a little. Every time I boot the computer it sets the resolution to 1920x1200, and thats why the monitor says "Input not supported". I hope somebody got an idea to a solution to this issue. I will gladly help, but Im relatively new at Linux.

Well... I found a solution: press the F5 button at boot and add the option:

res=1280x1024

This makes the desktop visible on my monitor. However, when I use 3D accelleration it oes not work: I cannot select any window to type in, nor can I move any window using my mouse. However, without the desktop effects it works fine.
