Any recomondations for a good music recording soundcard?

Postby Tuttermuts » Fri Jun 29, 2007 14:19

I already posted this in the dutch section but maybe I'll have more luck over here, if it's annoying feel free to delete the other topic, no offence taken.

I'm using sabayon mostly for sound applications, such as hydrogen and audacity. The only thing that still bugs me is my soundcard(terratec aureon 5.1), it has that dreaded digital "his" on the recordings. Does anybody know a good soundcard that they can recommend for recording music in sabayon.

How high a price do you want to go?

I have a Juli@ It works very well, uses the ice1724 driver. I haven't tested recording on it but its is a profession sound card made for that kind of stuff. If you want something with more features you could look at the RME cards http://www.rme-audio.de/en_index.php there made for professional sound recording but with that also comes price.

The Juli@ looks verry intresting for the price. And so far I've only read good things about it.
Now it's just a matter of finding a store that carries them.

thx

what country are you from?

I really like the Juli@, i plugged it in and it worked ootb without any problems (although i had the ice1724 compiled in my kernel in anticipation of its arrival), if you do get it keep in mind the Juli@ uses 1 left input, 1 right input, 1 left output, 1 right output(as well as dS/PDIF and midi interfaces) so if your mic or headphones don't have split left/right connections you'll need to get some sort of splitter, there like a pound or two and im sure you could probably get one at any music store.

I'm from belgium, the splitting is alright. In fact it might even be a pluspoint, most of my things here are stereo.

long time no see,
After a while I looked on the net for stores in Holland(after all I live near the border and in holland they tend to have a broader selection).
The diffirence was amazing!!! In belgium I only foudn one store, in holland I found nearly 5 close to me.

Although I aprecciate the link you gave, I'm not really confident with online ordering(yet).

As for the card itself, it sounds truly amazing and it's everything I need for recording! The clarity of the sound is absolutly stunning, and the recording quality is the same. And it has absolutly no hiss or anything. For those who stumble upon this topic, if you are a musician go buy this card you won't regret it.

However I am bumping into some problems in sabayon, I installed a fresh hardrive with a fresh copy of sabayon since I got the card(the Hd just happened to be there at the same time :p). Because on my old hd (with sabayon) ever since I installed the card it wouldn't give sound in hydrogen. And when shutting down the whole system it would hang half way (with the shift lock and scroll lock lights blinking).

However I'm sure after some messing around this will be fixed. Thx again for a great great tip!!! :D
