dvd problem

Postby pglass » Fri Jun 22, 2007 14:28

Hi,
I hava got a problem.
I have just installed Sabayon which, by the way, I love. I have got a cd/dvd player/recorder, which I know for sure is not damaged or failing.
Whenever I insert a cd, it works perfectly. But I tried with data dvd's and it seems it can't read it. Am I missing something there?

Any help will be very appreciated, specially because I have very important information backed up in dvd.

I would imagine you can mount it manually.

Following instructions are from a Cisco Web page:

*********************************************************

To mount a local DVD-ROM for Linux:

Step 1 Insert the DVD-ROM into the DVD-ROM drive.

Step 2 Log in as the root user. The command prompt changes to the pound sign (#).

Step 3 If the /mnt/cdrom directory does not already exist, create it using the mkdir command:

# mkdir /mnt/cdrom

Step 4 Mount the DVD-ROM drive:

Note Make sure that you are not in the /mnt/cdrom directory when you perform this step.

# mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

*********************************************************

Actually, looking in /dev on my laptop running SL 3.4 Loop 2b, I see that there is also a link dvd -> sr0, so you could do the following for Step 4 instead:

# mount /dev/dvd /mnt/cdrom
