with a digital tv card in australia most pci cards are in the newer kernell
so theonly thing you need to do in a debian system ( I just got sabayon)

is open a terminal
change to root user by "su "
type in "lspci"
find the appropiate card

mine shows
00:00.0 Host bridge: nVidia Corporation nForce3 250Gb Host Bridge (rev a1)
00:01.0 ISA bridge: nVidia Corporation nForce3 250Gb LPC Bridge (rev a2)

00:0e.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation nForce3 250Gb PCI-to-PCI Bridge (rev a2)
00:18.0 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] HyperTransport Technology Configuration
00:18.1 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] Address Map
00:18.2 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] DRAM Controller
00:18.3 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] Miscellaneous Control
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5200] (rev a1)
02:0a.0 Multimedia video controller: Conexant CX23880/1/2/3 PCI Video and Audio Decoder (rev 05)
02:0a.1 Multimedia controller: Conexant CX23880/1/2/3 PCI Video and Audio Decoder [Audio Port] (rev 05)
02:0a.2 Multimedia controller: Conexant CX23880/1/2/3 PCI Video and Audio Decoder [MPEG Port] (rev 05)

02:0b.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8001 Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 13)
02:0d.0 RAID bus controller: Silicon Image, Inc. SiI 3512 [SATALink/SATARaid] Serial ATA Controller (rev 01)
02:0e.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Texas Instruments TSB82AA2 IEEE-1394b Link Layer Controller (rev 01)

the important bit for me is Conexant cx23880

google for " module and Conexant cx23880"

then add

dvb-core
cx88-dvb
cx88-alsa

to the file /etc/modules

this is where i am not sure about sabayon
it does not have a module file

I hope this helps

I've got a Hauppauge PVR 150 TV-card, this card uses the ivtv driver.
Since the ivtv driver is in the kernel (video4linux), oa with Sabayon 3.4b3 I couldn't emerge ivtv....

The solution to get the tv-tune and utils is to get the sources from http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Main_Page
build only the sources in iv-tune an util directory and put the executables in /usr/local/bin or were you like it. So you can tune with iv-tune and watch (mplayer) or record (cat) raw stream through /dev/video0

The ordinary v4l programs can't handle this card yet.
Kdetv can handle the tuner but not the mpeg2 output, it also pushed the card in a very low resolution and turn the sound off. Xawtv an tvtime can't handle this card.

I also recompiled the kernel with all v4l an sounddevices on because I'll get no sound, but don't know if this is necessarily because the no sound issue can also be caused by kdetv.
