Blu Ray Player in HTPC - good choice ??

Postby rogerh113 » Sun Mar 03, 2013 18:35

Hello,

I am looking to add blu-ray viewing capability, and I need to decide on getting a stand-alone blu ray player to my TV, or adding a USB connected blu-ray drive to my HTPC. I already have the usb external case (standard drive with internal ide connection), and was going to put a DVD burner in it. I would prefer to put a blu-ray player in it, rather than have yet another single use component (stand alone blu ray player), but I do not know how complex it is to play commercial blu-ray disks via Sabayon. The drives I was looking at were the Panasonic SW-5582-C and Sony BWU-100A, for example, but are these pretty much plug and play or are unnatural acts required to get them going??

Just looking for an opinion from those that have been there and are in the know. I have been using Linux for a number of years, but am more of a user than a ardent hobbyist.

Thanks -- Roger
