decent printer? ethernet or wireless...

Postby anomaly65 » Mon Feb 11, 2013 23:34

Hi all,

I have a brother HL-2270DW laser printer (can often find them on sale for good prices, replacement toner isn't inexpensive). Great printer, includes auto-duplex, works via usb/wireless/ethernet and zero issues with Sabayon. fast as many office printers too 8) If you want a laser printer with no problems, I highly recommend that model, and amazon.com has a substitute 2500 page toner replacement for $15USD or so. I'm past 13k pages with zero complaints :)

A good friend who runs sabayon has a kodak esp7250 (no linux-kodak drivers, just a polite attempt at one in the c2esp package in portage; fails half the time if it works at all). But I'm tired enough of messing with that thing. He's given up and wants a supported printer. I think he likes to print color occasionally, thus inkjet is a good idea, but wow, the cost (particularly HP) of ink is pricier than liquid gold  I used to rent an apartment above his garage, and he'd laugh that my printer would finish a 30 page document before he could ring my phone to ask me to watch for it.

Anyone got a favorite printer they'd recommend? Current his printer connected via ethernet. I've never seen him use the fax, but likes the scanner (to a USB stick) once in a while. His daughter, and a nearby windows machine uses printer once in a long while, so network connection is a very good idea.

Any suggestions most welcome!
thankyou!

Use handrails on stairs. A nasty fall face first changes your point of view quickly, and mine permanently :-)
