realtek [Solved]

Postby birdy_356 » Wed Dec 19, 2012 19:40

Hello people,
some strange behavior on 2 sabayon,1 ubuntu, and xp :bom:
They are on one and same PC.
None of my realtek pci networkcards were found :shock:
I have tried 2 RTL8139C, RTL8110S, RTL8139D, which worked always perfect, tried to put cards on different slots, but no succes.
Even live linux cd's can't find them anymore.
I did no changes or adding hardware to the system.

edit;
put the RTL8110S to an other older PC(win7) and it works.
on the same old PC, sabayon live CD, realtek works.

edit;

downloaded latest sabayon daily this morning.
Realtek card found RTL8169 and autoloaded r8169 module, and works
I will try to install realtek card on my other pc next week, just to try ;-)

:roll:

It's probably because the module (driver) is not loaded. Try, for example, the following:

Code: Select all
$ su
Password: <--- Enter the root user's password.
# modprobe 8139too
# exit
exit
$

You can make the loading automatic at start-up by specifying the module(s) in the /etc/conf.d/modules file.

OK. Marking as solved then. Let us know the result if you do use the Realtek card again. Use the lsmod command as root user to see which modules are loaded, and then check the Web to see which kernel module (driver) is required for that model of Ethernet card.
