Epson Perfection V500 [Solved]

Postby florentina » Mon Dec 17, 2012 23:35

Hi,

I can't access my Epson Perfection v500. I've already installed iscan-data and iscan via rigo. But each time I open xsane it tells me that it can't find any scanners. Can someone please provide me with a step to step guide. I searched for this scanner in this forum. But I don't know how to tell the package manager that iscan needs to be installed in /usr/local/portage/media-gfx. Or is there any other solution? Even if I try to compile the source from avasys I always get the following error:

pngstream.cc: In member function 'virtual iscan::basic_imgstream& iscan::pngstream::flush()':
pngstream.cc:86:36: error: invalid use of incomplete type 'png_struct {aka struct png_struct_def}'

Thanks for your help

I've just found the answer. This solution was posted in a forum for Arch-Linux but it was also useful for me. I extracted the scanner's firmware from the package iscan-plugin-gt-x770-2.1.2-1.x86_64.rpm and entered the following command:

Code: Select all
iscan-registry -a interpreter usb 0x04b8 0x0130 /usr/lib/iscan/libesint7C /usr/share/iscan/esfw7C.bin

Just for information, to do it the Gentoo way you would use the Portage package manager:

Code: Select all
emerge iscan iscan-plugin-gt-x770

The first package in the above-mentioned command is Epson Image Scan for Linux:

Code: Select all
* media-gfx/iscan
     Available versions:  2.26.2^t (~)2.28.1.3^t {X doc gimp jpeg png tiff LINGUAS="ar de es fr it ja ko nl pt zh_CN zh_TW"}
     Homepage:            http://www.avasys.jp/english/linux_e/dl_scan.html
     Description:         EPSON Image Scan! for Linux (including sane-epkowa backend)

and the second package in the above-mentioned command is the specific plugin for the V500:

Code: Select all
* media-gfx/iscan-plugin-gt-x770
     Available versions:  (~)2.1.2.1-r2
     Homepage:            http://www.avasys.jp/english/linux_e/dl_scan.html
     Description:         Epson Perfection V500 scanner plugin for SANE 'epkowa' backend.

(Actually, as the iscan package is also in the Entropy repository, it could be installed via Entropy instead of Portage:
equo install iscan.)
