Hi everyone, I know due new kernel proprietary drivers for some ati cards are no longer supported, however I've seen there are some beta drivers that might work.
I have an ASUS mainboard with an incorporated ati HD 4200.
I tried with the 12.6 3.5 and 3.6 beta drivers, aticonfig --list-adapters shows it recognizes my video card but after I configure video using aticonfig --initial and checked everything is ok in xorg.conf I reboot the machine and I got a black screen with a no blinking cursor at top left side of the screen and that's all machine is frozen, I have to reboot and modify xorg.conf back to ati instead fglrx so i can get access to the system again.
I have kernel 3.6, also tried booting using kernel 3.5 and reinstalling drivers under that kernel but result is the same. aticonfig doesnt recognice my video card with driver 12.8 installed.
lspci shows my video card is present:
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RS880 [Radeon HD 4200]
I want to get proprietary driver working because open driver is awfully slow, if someone could help me I'd be thankful.
PS: Btw sorry my English got rusty.
