How can I disable updating of ati-drivers? [Solved]

Postby shimi » Tue Oct 23, 2012 15:46

Hello,

I have a radeon card that I am using with the 12.6 legacy driver and entropy keeps alerting me there is an update to 12.8.
But 12.8 is not a legacy driver and so does not support my gpu(radeon 4570). Is there a way to tell entropy I do not want that package updated unless I specifically choose to?

Thanks.

Yes. Mask the package in Entropy:

Code: Select all
echo ">x11-drivers/ati-drivers-12.6" >> /etc/entropy/packages/package.mask

Edit: As I was typing this I got called away and Fitzcarraldo posted.. so I will keep the solution for myself also should I ever need it.

I have never had the need to mask a package but I think what you are looking for is
Look at this below but perhaps Joost will weigh in here
http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php?title=En:HOWTO:_The_Complete_Portage_Guide#Hard-masked_Packages_.26_.2Fetc.2Fportage.2Fpackage.mask_and_.2Fetc.2Fportage.2Fpackage.unmask
Masked / Hard-masked packages are packages in Portage that are locked or blocked from being installed for many reasons.
Criticism accepted for Solutions that work. ;^)

That is for portage, not entropy

^Oh Yeah Wolfy!
Well... Your signature Graphic is too large..

I obviously lost sight of that small point as I was looking at wikis myself.. Or is that Wikii
Never needed to block any Gentoo/Sabayon packages for my own needs. Did have to pin some Debian repositories for specialty reason some years ago..
So Thanks for the distinction.... not a portage user I would use entropy myself.
