Yup, the Portage ebuild for 5.2.8 was issued on 14 June, and the Portage ebuild for 5.2.9 was issued yesterday, 9 July. Several of the Canon drivers installed by those two ebuilds are better than the predecessor ebuild 5.2.7-r1. My Canon MP560 didn't work with the 5.2.7-r1 version either, but does with the newer ones.
