Synaptiks dead [Solved]

Postby ReemZ » Fri Apr 06, 2012 4:20

On my 64-bit lappy (Toshiba Satellite L550-203) running SL 8 KDE, Synaptiks suddenly stopped working.
Alt-F2, synaptiks: pop-up saying KDEInit could not launch '/usr/bin/synaptiks', although /usr/bin/synaptiks exists.
In a terminal: Segmentation fault, and nothing else.
System Settings crashes as soon as I select the Touchpad section in Input Devices.
All three of the above happen every single time I try them.

I've already removed (--configfiles) and reinstalled it to no avail.

I know with syndaemon I can temporarily switch the touchpad off on keypress, but I want to be able to switch the thing off completely (which is the normal situation for me as I tend to use a mouse, or on in the rare situation I don't have the mouse with me or just need to do something quickly while being too lazy to walk a few yards and go get the mouse) and for some reason Toshiba thought it was a good idea to not include a hardware switch for the touchpad. This means I can only switch it on or off by using Toshiba's own little piece of software, which lets me use Fn+F1-12 for various things, in this case Fn+F9. And, of course, this only works in winblows, meaning I would have to (re)boot into winblows, login, switch the touchpad on or off, reboot into SL, and do my thing, when with synaptiks still working I simply hit a key combination I assigned to it.

Any ideas?

I had this a couple of months ago on my Gentoo machine, and it sorted itself out after a world update, so you'll probably be OK if you hang on a bit for some Entropy upgrades.

Indeed, the problem seems to have solved itself after the last upgrade run. Ta!
